How was Select Counsellors founded?
Select Counsellors was founded by experienced therapists who realised through their own client work, that clients got a better outcome in therapy when the rapport between the client and their therapist was strong. When we explored this further we realised that the rapport and the strength of the client-therapist relationship was determined by a number of factors including:
experience of the therapist in working with a particular client’s issues
demography of the therapist and the client e.g. age, sex, nationality, socio-economic, education
the style and personality of the therapist and the client
therapeutic models used by the therapist
It was through our own work with clients that we realised it was crucial to get this matching process right. We knew of many clients who had been referred to a particular therapist based on factors such as location and proximity to work or home. In some cases the match worked well but in numerous cases it didn’t. This was because all of the above factors needed to be in place in order for the client to get the most out of the therapeutic experience. If these factors are not in place clients generally don’t make the progress they desire and worse can drop out of therapy never to return again.
It was for this reason that we developed Select Counsellors to ensure clients got the right treatment with the right practitioner first time.
